Neurosurgery at St. Michael’s - overview
The Neurosurgery service at St. Michael's Hospital is a busy inner-city practice. It is one of Ontario’s largest neurosurgical adult centres and performs more than 400 surgeries annually for cancer-related diagnoses. St. Michael’s Neurosurgery specializes in caring for patients with primary brain tumours (gliomas and brain metastases) and tumours of the skull base (meningiomas and pituitary tumours). We work with the health-care providers who refer patients to our services and with rehabilitation partners to ensure continued care for patients beyond their surgery and stay at St. Michael’s. We also maintain strong partnerships with centres providing radiation and chemotherapy for patients with brain or spinal tumours.
Our multidisciplinary team meets weekly in order to review cases. After that review, patients and families then join the team to discuss and develop a care plan.
