Navy Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Royal Blue Top (K2-EDTA)

Minimum Testing Volume = 3mL Plasma

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in royal blue (K2-EDTA) contaminant-free tube. Avoid any cause of hemolysis during collection. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Separate as soon as possible and transfer plasma to polypropylene vial. Store and send cold. Concentrations of zinc are much higher in erythrocytes than in plasma. The results in plasma may be falsely elevated if not separated within 30 minutes .

Rejection Criteria: Serum, hemolysis or unlabeled samples.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
