Specimen HandlingCollection Instructions: Collect sample in gold or red top tube. Plasma is not acceptable. Fasting specimen preferred. Ensure both samples and requisitions are labelled properly. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition. Laboratory Staff Instructions: Separate samples from cells as soon as possible. Sample stored at room temperature for more than 24 hours will not be accepted. Samples can be frozen and thawed up to 4 times. Rejection Criteria: Plasma, samples stored at room temperature more than 24 hours, grossly hemolyzed and icteric samples, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity. Stability: Stable for 7 days refrigerated and >7 days when frozen. Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible. |
