Specimen HandlingCollection Instructions: 24h urine collected in plain container without preservative. Ensure collection bottle is labelled correctly. Keep the collected urine refrigerated if possible and return to lab ASAP. Write your "start" and "end" date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition. Stability: Urine stable for 4 days at room temperature or refrigerated and frozen at -15°C to -20°C for 2 weeks Transportation: Send sample to SMH core lab as soon as possible. Laboratory Staff Instructions: 24 h urine collected without preservative. pH must be adjusted to > 8.0. If pH is less than or equal to 8.0, adjust pH to > 8.0 by adding 1 M NaOH. Mix well and allow entire 24-hour collection to stand for 15 minutes. Recheck pH and readjust if necessary Sample Rejection Criteria: Urine collected with acid / alkaline or leaking specimen will be rejected |
