Specimen Type / RequirementsContainer Type = Sterile orange cap Minimum Volume = 3 mL Urine |

Specimen HandlingCollection instructions: Collect sample in a sterile orange cap container. The preferred urine specimen especially for macroscopic analysis is a well-mixed first morning “mid-stream”. This is the most concentrated specimen and is most likely to reveal abnormalities. Random urine specimens may be used. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label. Special Instructions Specimen should be tested within 2 hours of collection. Rejection Criteria Bloody urine, unlabeled, sample of non-sufficient or > 2hrs not refrigerated. Stability: Urine analysis must be performed within 2 hour of collecting the sample to avoid deterioration of the sample components. If this time-frame cannot be adhered to, the urine must be stored at 2-8 °C. The urine specimens must be brought back to room temperature before analysis. Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible. |
