Test Name Thyroglobulin
Specimen Type/Requirements Container Type = 1 Gold Top Minimum Testing Volume = 0.5 mL serum
Specimen Handling Collection Instructions: Collect 1 gold tube top(SST). Invert sample 6-8 times after collection to ensure sample is well mixed. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition. Laboratory Staff Instructions Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity. Stability: Stable at room temperature for 14 days, refrigerated 4 days and frozen 2 years. Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.

Test Utilization A reflex system has been developed such that if Anti-Tg is significantly elevated, no thyroglobulin level will be reported. The Anti-Tg threshold for diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid disease is different than for assay interference. At UHT, there is potential for Anti-Tg interference with the thyroglobulin assay at levels >20 kIU/L. Please contact the core lab x5082 if you have an exceptional circumstance that warrants repeat testing or if you have any questions
