Gold Tube Specimen Type/Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top

Minimum Testing Volume = 1mL Serum

Collect pediatric sample in red or yellow microtainer

Cord blood is also acceptable.

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in gold top (SST) or red top tube. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Serum should be separated from cells within 1 hour. Once seperated, sample should be frozen until time of testing. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.

Rejection criteria: Plasma, grossly lipemic, grossly hemolysed, mislabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity.

Stability: Stable refrigerated at 2-8◦C for 7 days. and frozen for 1 month at -20°C or lower.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.

risk of developing neonatal hyperthyroidism
