Specimen HandlingCollection Instructions: prior arrangement Ensure both requisitions and samples are labelled properly. Requisition must be completed with all of the required information. Immediately after filling tubes invert tubes ten (10) times just firmly enough to ensure the entire surface of the tube is coated with blood. Over-energetic shaking may cause gel disruption and could lead to aberrant results. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition. Labotatory Staff Instructions: o When IGRA is ordered through Soarian, the floor is prompted to print out the Sick Kids requisition. o The floor will then contact Phlebotomy to have IGRA collected STAT. o Phlebotomy will collect the Lithium Heparin tube. Label the tube and Sick Kids requisition with LIS labels. o Phlebotomy will deliver the sample and Sick Kids requisition to the Microbiology Lab. Tubes MUST BE received in the Sick Kids Microbiology Laboratory within 12 hours of collection.Rejection Criteria: Tubes other than those provided in the collection kit. Unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity. Transportation: DO NOT refrigerate or freeze samples, ship at room temperature. |
