Gold Tube Lavender Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Testing Volume = 2mL serum
or heparinized/EDTA plasma

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in gold top (SST) or heparinized green or lavender tube. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Centrifuge and seperate from cells as soon as possible.

Rejection Criteria: Unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity. Avoid repeat freeze/Thaw cycles.

Stability: Procalcitonin is stable at room temperature up to 8 hours; at 2-8°C for 2 days or at ≤-20°C for longer periods of time.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
