Specimen HandlingCollection Instructions: Collect 24h urine sample in a metal-free container without preservative and kept refrigerated or on ice during collection. Ensure collection bottle and requisition are labelled correctly. Keep the collected urine refrigerated if possible and return to lab ASAP. Write your "start" and "end" date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition. Laboratory Staff Instructions: Create an aliquot from the sample and Centrifuge before placing on automation line using the bypass rack. Specimens should be acidified to pH < 3.0 with 6N hydrochloric acid before analysis. Stability: Stable at room temperature 8 h, refrigerated for 2 days and frozen for 6 months. Sample Rejection Criteria: Urine collected with acid/alkaline, unlabeled or leaking specimen. Transportation: Send sample to SMH core lab as soon as possible. |
