Specimen Handling Collection Instructions: Serum collected preferably in red top vacutainer without gel separator. If serum is collected in gold top vacutainer with gel separator, transfer serum to an aliquot tube as soon as possible after centrifugation. The pre-dose or trough sample is collected before administration of the next dose. Therapeutic drug monitoring of Primidone should always include measurement of its major metabolite Phenobarbital. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label. Stability: Stable at room temperature for 3 days, refrigerated for 7 days and frozen for 28 days. Transportation: Transport at room temperature ASAP. Laboratory Staff Instructions: Centrifuged and never opened prior to analysis provides the best sample integrity.
