Minimum Venous Volume = 3 mL whole blood

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect whole blood (3 mL) in lavender top (EDTA) tube. Do not use heparin as an anti-coagulant. Haematology consult is required for in-patient samples. If Jak2 V617F is negative, test can be Referred to UHN for Jak2 Exon-12 and Mutation of the Calreticulin (CALR) Gene. If requested, please complete this requisition and send it with sample to molecular laboratory.

Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Sample is processed at Molecular Lab.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible. Specimens can be stored at 2-6°C for up to 7 days before DNA extraction.

Sample Rejection Criteria: Clotted sample, repeat samples, unlabeled or samples with insufficient quantity will be rejected.
