Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Adult

Container Type = Serum: 1 Gold or Red top.

Minimum Testing Volume = 2mL Serum

Tubes must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Pediatric:

0-2 years: Red 1mL Microtainer

2-10 yrs: 2 mL Red top

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in a red or gold top tube with or without gel separator. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Separate and freeze immediately. Store and send frozen.

Stability: Stable frozen for 3 months.

Rejection Criteria: Not frozen, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity.

Transportation: Send samples to core laboratory as soon as possible.
