Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (or 1 Lavender or Li-Heparin Tube)

Preferred Volume = 1 mL Serum

Minimum Volume = 0.5 mL Serum

Tubes must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect specimens in either a red, gold, lavender, or green top tube. Both serum and EDTA or lithium heparin plasma are acceptable specimen types. Remember to write your initials, date, and time of collection on the label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions Spin sample using cold centrifuge, separate from cells within 2 hours of collection. Store at -80C.

Rejection Criteria: Unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity.

Stability: Stable at room temperature for 1 day, refrigerated for 7 days, frozen for 1 year. Maximum 3 freeze-thaw cycles.

Transportation: Send sample on ice to core lab as soon as possible.
