Lavender Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = Lavender

Minimum Venous Volume = 2 mL whole blood

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in ACD or lavender top and send to core lab. Sample should be well mixed at time of collection to prevent platelet clumping. Ensure both sample and requisition are labelled properly. Specify type of HLA when ordering (See attached requisition). Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Sample can be collected on Fridays as long as it can get to testing site within 5 days of collection. If sample cannot be send within 24 hours of collection, store and send cold.

Stability: Stable refrigerated for 5 days.

Transportation: Send at room temperature as soon as possible.

Sample Rejection Criteria: Plasma, clotted sample, Grossly hemolyzed samples, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity.
