Grey Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = Grey Top

Minimum Testing Volume = 2ml plasma

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in Grey top Container, Avoid hemolysis during draw. Patient must be fasting for at least 12 hours before the procedure. 75g glucose drink is given to the Patient once the fasting blood is drawned. Ensure patient finish ingesting drink within 5 minutes. 1 Hr after finishing the drink, a second sample is drawn and 2Hrs after finishing the drink, a third sample is drawn.

Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Stability: Stable at room temperature for 8 hours and 3 days refrigerated at 2-8°C.

Transportation: Transport at room temperature ASAP. Spin if sample time of collection to time sample get to lab exceeds 2hrs

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Separate serum after clotting or plasma from cells immediately to reduce loss of glucose through in vitro glycolysis.

Sample Rejection Criteria: Grossly hemolyzed samples, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity samples will be rejected
