Specimen HandlingCollection Instructions: Patient is given 50g glucose drink an hour before blood is drawn. Ensure patient finish ingesting drink within 5 minutes. blood is drawn 1 hour (60 minutes) after finishing the drink. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label. Stability: Stable at room temperature for 8 hours and 3 days refrigerated at 2-8°C. Transportation: Transport at room temperature ASAP. Laboratory Staff Instructions: Spin sample if collection time and time sample gets to the core lab exceeds 2hrs. Separate serum after clotting or plasma from cells immediately to reduce loss of glucose through in vitro glycolysis. Sample Rejection Criteria: Grossly hemolyzed samples, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity Samples will be rejected |
