Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Testing Volume = 2mL serum

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in gold top (SST) tube. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

There is limited utility in repeating serum protein electrophoresis, urine protein electrophoresis, or serum free light chains in short interval. If these tests have been completed in the last 20 days they will not be processed. Please contact St Joe's core lab at 416-530-6273 if you have an exceptional circumstance that warrants repeat testing.

Special Instructions: Specimen must be labelled properly. Sperate as soon and possible and send refrigrated

Rejection Criteria: Grossly hemolyzed, lipemic, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity Samples will be rejected.

Stability: Stable refrigerated for 21 days 2-8°C and frozen at or below -20 °C for more than 21 days.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
