CSF Tube Urine sample Specimen Type / Requirements

Adult

Container Type = Sterile, screw-capped transport tube or CSF tube.

Preferred volume to collect: 1.0 mL CSF

Minimum Testing Volume to collect: 0.5 mL CSF

Neonate volume to collect: 0.5 mL CSF

Serum samples are also acceptable.

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in a sterine container. Ensure sample is mixed appropriately. Biochemist approval is required prior to sending this test. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Please Note: Encephalitis orders require a Clinical Questionnaire to be filled out.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Samples can be sent without clinican form. Fax questionnaire to testing site once it becomes available. Store and send frozen samples to ICL.

Stability: Sample can be stored for up to 14 days at 4°C. For longer storage, store at -20°C.

Rejection Criteria: Ambient, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity.

Transportation: Send samples together with a completely filled out questionnaire to core lab as soon as possible.
