Red Tube with thin top Specimen Type/Requirements

Container Type = 1 Red Top (Adult) or 1 Red Microtainer (Pediatric)

Minimum Testing Volume = 3 ml Blood

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect 3mL of blood in red top tube for adults and 1mL in red microtainer. Record time of collection and time of last dose. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Separate samples from cells as soon as possible. Store and send frozen. Repeated freezing and thawing of samples should be avoided.

Rejection Criteria: Unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity.

Stability: Stable for 3 days at 2-8°C and frozen for 30 days.

Transportation: Send to Core Lab as soon as possible

Post -Transplant Antibody screen

Solid Phase – Donor Specific Ab testing: Code = CPRA

This test is considered STAT.

Ship at room temperature to UHN HLA Lab daily Monday to Sunday 08:00 – 16:00.

Pre-Transplant Antibody screen

Antibody screen PRA Specificity: Code = CPRA
Enter Pre in comment. Spin and freeze
This is a routine test, no need to send on weekends or via taxi.
Send frozen Monday to Fri (08:00 – 16:00) via next morning or regular PDS courier.
