Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Testing Volume = 1 ml serum

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Serum or heparinized plasma free from hemolysis, collected with or without gel separator. Plasma samples may occasionally produce unpredictable rate reactions resulting in false low results. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Remove serum or plasma from cells ASAP to minimize hemolysis and contamination by adenylate kinase from the red cells

Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis, unlabeled or sample of non sufficient quantity.

Stability: Stable at room temperature for up to 4 hours, refrigerated for up to 48 hours and frozen for more than 48 hours.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
