Red Tube Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Red Top or Gold Top

Minimum Testing Volume = 0.5mL serum

Tubes must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in red or gold top tube. Ensure to provide date and time of collection. .

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Allow filled tube to clot at 22 – 37°C for 30-60 minutes. Centrifuge at room temperature and separate into a labelled aliquot tube. Store and send frozen to St Joseph’s Health Centre. Store at -80°C until testing.

Rejection Criteria: Unlabeled or samples of none sufficient quantity. plasma, lipemic and grossly hemolyzed specimens are not suitable for analysis. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles.

Stability: Stable at least 30 days when stored at -80°C. Thaw samples only once.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
