Red Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Red Top or Gold Top

Minimum Testing Volume = 2mL serum

Tubes must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in red or gold top tube. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Allow filled tube to clot at room temperature for 30-60 minutes. Centrifuge at room Temperature. Aliquot into storage tube and freeze as soon as possible. Store and send frozen.

Rejection Criteria: Unlabeled or samples of none sufficient quantity. Plasma, lipemic and grossly hemolyzed specimens are not suitable for analysis. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles.

Stability: Stable at least 30 days when stored at -80°C. Thaw samples only once.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible. If is takes longer than 1hr to get the lab,then send in thermos to maintain 22°C-37°C temperature.
