Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect random urine in a sterile container. It is important that the urine is refrigerated during the collection. Restrict caffeine, nicotine and alcohol 24hrs prior to collection. Discontinue Methyldopa (Aldomet) at least 5 days prior to collection.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Acidify aliquot with 6 mol/L (6N) HCl. The final pH of the urine must be 2.0 - 4.0 before analysis.

Stability: stable for 1 month refrigerated at 2-8°C and longer if frozen.

Transportation: Send sample to SMH core lab as soon as possible.

Sample Rejection Criteria: Unlabeled, leaky or samples of non sufficient quantity.
