Lavender Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Lavender top tube

Minimum Testing Volume = 1mL

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in a lavender top and send to core lab. Ensure sample is mixed adequately. Test is done Monday to Thursday and Friday up to 13:00 only. Sample needs to be in lab by 1pm on fridays. Do not draw on Fridays after 13:00 and on weekends.

Due to specimen cut off times, only inpatient units, 2CC and 61Q outpatient labs collects CD4 on Friday.

Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Ensure Samples is delivered together with requisition to the blue bin at flow Cytometry as soon as possible.

Stability: Stable for 24hrs at room temperature and 3 days refrigerated.

Transportation: Transport at room temperature within 1 hour of collection.

Sample Rejection Criteria:Clotted sample, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity. Samples collected after 1pm on Friday until 24hrs before the start of the next business day will be rejected.
