Lavender Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = Lavender

Minimum Venous Volume = 1mL whole blood

Note: Specimen must be received in corelab within 15 minutes of collection.

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in a lavender top and send to core lab. Sample should be well mixed at time of collection to prevent platelet clumping. Send sample to corelab immidiately after collection. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Ensure collection date and time is provided before handing specimen to hematology float bench. Test must be processed within one hour of collection.

Stability: If the test cannot be performed immediately, blood may be stored for up to 3 days at 2-30°C.

Transportation: Transport specimen in red stat bag at room temperature within 15 minutes of collection. Specimen can either be transported through the pneumatic tube or hand delivered to corelab.

Sample Rejection Criteria: Sample received more than hour of collection, clotted sample, unlabeled or samples of non-sufficient quantity.
