Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Testing Volume = 1mL serum

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Acceptable specimen type: Serum, Heparin or EDTA plasma

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Collect sample in gold, red, green or lavender top tube. Test can be run on Serum or plasma (Li-heparin or Na-heparin or EDTA). Ensure both sample and requisition are lebeled properly. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Separate from cells within 2 hours of collection and store frozen.

Stability: Serum: stable for 1 day at 20 °C, 1 weeks at 2-8 °C or 12 months at -20 °C.
Plasma: stable for ambient 6 hours, 48 hours at 2-8 °C, 2 months at -20 °C or 2 months at -70 °C.

Rejection Criteria: Unlabeled or samples with non sufficient quantity.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
