Specimen HandlingCollection Instructions: Serum or heparinized plasma collected with or without gel separator. Preferably in amber microtainer for newborn samples. Bilirubin is photosensitive. Protect samples from light during collection, transport and storage. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition. Special Instructions Serum or heparinized plasma free from hemolysis collected with or without gel separator. Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity Samples will be rejected. Stability: Bilirubin is stable for 4 hours at room temperature protected from light, refrigerated for 1 week and for 6 months at -15°C to -20°C. Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible. |
