Test Name

Beta-Crosslaps (CTx, Beta-CTx, C-Telopeptide, Carboxy terminal collagen crosslinks)

Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Testing Volume = 2mL Serum

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: It is recommended to draw blood as fasting or morning samples. Collect sample in vacutainer with or without gel separator. Plasma collected in EDTA or heparin containing vacutainer (lavender or green top) are acceptable too. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition.

Laboratory Staff Instructions: Separate samples from cells as soon as possible. Repeated freezing and thawing of samples should be avoided.

Rejection Criteria: Grossly Hemolyzed and icteric samples, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity. Hemolyzed sample (Hb > 5 g/L) will elicit a decrease in the β-CTx concentration.

Stability: Stable for 8hrs at room temperature, refrigerated 1 week and 3 months stored at -20C or colder.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
