Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Testing Volume for testing = 1mL Serum

Serum preferred, but plasma (Na Heparin, Li Heparin, EDTA plasma) are also acceptable

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection instructions: Ensure both sample and requsition are properly labelled. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Laboratory Staff Instructions Centrifuge and separate serum from cells within 2hrs of collection. Store frozen in -30C freezer near seperation bench.

Rejection Criteria Highly lipemic or hemolyzed samples, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity Samples will be rejected.

Stability: Room temperature: 7 days, refrigerated: 1 month, frozen: 3 months

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.
