Specimen HandlingCollection Instructions: Collect sample in green top Lithium-Heparin tube. Gently invert tube 5-10 times immediately after collection. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label. Laboratory Staff Instructions Promptly spin in cold centrifuge (MUST be within 30 minutes of collection). Immediately transfer plasma to a plastic transport tube and freeze. Send specimens from ER, ICUs and HHT only via taxi. All other Ammonia specimens can be sent via the next courier, even on evenings and weekends. Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis, Unlabeled or Not Sufficient Quantity Samples will be rejected. Plasma not separated from cells and freeze within 30 minutes of collection will be rejected. Stability: Stable 30 mins on at room temperature, Up to 2 hours on ice or refrigerated at 2-8°C, Frozen at < -20°C or more for 2 days. Transportation: Send sample to lab on ice as soon as possible (Do not open tube). Once seperation is done, freeze and send frozen. |
