Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Testing Volume = 1 mL serum

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Note: AFP is also available on fluid samples. Specimen
               must be in a sterile container with fluid type indicated.

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Serum or heparinized plasma collected with or without gel separator. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition.

Special Instructions Separate from cells within 2 hours of collection.

Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity.

Stability: Stable at room temperature for 8 hours, refrigerated for 48 hours and frozen at -20°C or colder for 1 year. Thaw samples only once.

Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.

Male: < 10 ug/L

Female non-pregnant: < 10 ug/L

AFP Fluids : No reference range for fluids and should be interpreted in conjuction with other clinical findings.
