Gold Tube Specimen Type / Requirements

Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST)

Minimum Testing Volume = 2mL serum

Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity

Specimen Handling

Collection Instructions: Serum can be obtained from an SST gold tube. Following collection, serum should be separated from the clot, following centrifugation. Store samples at room temperature no longer than 8 hours. If the assay will not be completed within 8 hours, or for shipment of the sample, freeze at -20°C or lower. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label.

Transportation: In/Outpatients: Send specimen at room temperature as soon as possible. Referred-in: Send frozen serum on dry ice. All samples must be sent to the Core Laboratory.

Sample Rejection Criteria: Grossly hemolyzed samples, Unlabeled or samples with insufficient quantity will be rejected.
