Specimen Type / Requirements Container Type = 1 Gold Top (SST) Minimum Testing Volume = 1 ml serum Tube must fill to at least ½ or greater of its vacuum capacity
Specimen Handling Collection Instructions: Collect sample in gold or red top tube with or without gel separator. Write your initials, date and time of collection on the collection label or requisition. Laboratory Staff Instructions If thyroid monitoring is ordered, use codes ATG. and TG. Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis, unlabeled or samples of non sufficient quantity. Stability: Stable for 3 days at room temperature, refrigerated 1 week and frozen 1 months Transportation: Send sample to core lab as soon as possible.

Test Utilization A reflex system has been developed such that if anti-thyroglobulin antibody level is significantly elevated, no thyroglobulin level will be reported. ** The anti-thyroglobulin antibody threshold for diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid disease is different than the anti-thyroglobulin antibody level for assay interference. At St. Michael's Hospital, there is a potential for anti-thyroglobulin antibody interference with the thyroglobulin assay at levels >20 and in these situations, thyroglobulin results need to be interpreted with caution. Please contact the core lab x5082 if you have an exceptional circumstance that warrants repeat testing or if you have any questions
