Corporate objectives

Our three patient focused strategic priorities form the core of our 2015-18 strategic plan:

  1. Advance systems of care for disadvantaged patients

St. Michael’s is home to Canada’s only hospital-based research entity focused on the health consequences of social inequity. These may include income, employment, education, housing status, gender, race and early childhood experience. Formerly called CRICH, the centre’s researchers track and analyze data to develop new care models and improve health outcomes for disadvantaged populations.

  1. Comprehensive care for our urban community

We want to optimize the transitions of care for our patients, so we are working on improving co-ordination and integration of our services. Our new Rapid Referral Clinic provides expedited care within 48 to 72 hours to patients who come to our ED with acute medical problems, but who can be managed safely as outpatients, thus avoiding hospital admissions and readmissions.

  1. Excel in the care of critically ill patients

We are advancing care across the spectrum of critical illness – before, during and after the acute care phase. The first trauma survivor network group in Canada was established at St. Michael’s earlier this year and helps trauma survivors manage the psychological and social impact of their injuries.
