We work towards positive outcomes by basing treatment on scientific knowledge about who could benefit. At the same time, we do not provide treatment to those not likely to benefit. Basically, we strive to do the right thing for the right person at the right time. The following charts show our performance on some outcome indicators.
Hospital standardized mortality ratio (HSMR)
This graph shows St. Michael’s ratio on a quarterly basis. HSMR shows the level of actual deaths vs. the level of expected deaths based on a number of factors such as the age and health conditions of patients. Having a ratio below 100 means that the hospital has fewer deaths that would be expected for our patient population.
