Heart & Vascular Program

The Heart and Vascular Program is a leader in a range of clinical and academic services in the investigation, prevention and treatment of heart disease and vascular conditions. The program treats over 8,000 inpatients per year and has 25,000 ambulatory visits.

Our services provide patients with comprehensive care in the management of

  • coronary artery disease
  • congestive heart failure
  • valve disease
  • arrhythmias
  • and a range of vascular diseases namely,
    • lower extremity occlusive disease
    • aortic aneurysmal disease
    • venous disease
    • carotid artery disease.

We also provide post-acute care follow-up through our cardiac rehabilitation program and ambulatory clinics.

The program is a leader in offering innovative options for the treatment of valvular disease such as mitral clip repairs and was the first hospital in Canada to perform a tricuspid valve repair. The vascular division has a long history of leadership in endovascular aortic repairs since inserting the first endovascular graft in Ontario for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms. Cardiac diagnostic tests provided are echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, cardiac stress testing, vascular ultrasound, holter and loop monitors. In addition practitioners lead research in basic science and clinical trials.
