Programs & Focus Areas
Critical Care provides acute care for patients who are generally unstable, critically ill or in urgent need of advanced monitoring and intensive treatments. Care is provided through multidisciplinary teams in the four intensive care units.
The Critical Care department also has the mission to develop critical care academic activities in relation with the University of Toronto. The directors of education, research, quality and communication are working collaboratively to achieve this goal.
Our intensive care units include:
- Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) resides in the Specialized Complex Care program
- Trauma and Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit (TNICU) resides in the Trauma and Neurosurgery program
- Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) resides in the Heart and Vascular program
- Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) resides in the Heart and Vascular program
