St. Michael’s Hospital was honoured as the top recipient of the Leadership 500 Excellence Award in the category of international companies at the 2014 Global Leadership Excellence Forum in Vail, Colorado.
The award, presented by HR.com, acknowledges St. Michael’s outstanding achievements in leadership development.
“I nominated the hospital because of our comprehensive program that provides existing and emerging leaders with the tools, resources and supports they need to be successful,” said Erone Newman, director of the hospital’s Heart and Vascular Program. “There are so many different types of leaders in a hospital from clinical leaders to administrative leaders – I felt that our program was unique because it’s designed for everyone.”
The leadership award is quite competitive – St. Michael’s ranked first in a group of 100 international companies that were recognized, including companies such as Bell Canada, Tesco Stores and TD Bank.
For the past 30 years, hr.com has identified and recognized the top 500 leadership organizations globally. This year's award recipients were selected based on both an application or nomination process as well as voting. The voting was completed by users of the leadership program through social media.
Key components of the St. Michael’s leadership development program include the Leadership Development Certificate, the Leadership Insight Series, the LEADS 360 Assessment and the LEADS Mentorship Program.
“At St. Michael’s, developing our people as leaders is a corporate imperative and a core pillar in our strategic human resources plan;” said Shreyshree Raja, the hospital’s former director of Leadership and Organizational Development. “The award winners from the 2014 Leadership 500 Excellence Award program are the top organizations with outstanding leadership programs from over 1,250 nominated companies. It’s an honour to have St. Michael’s at the top of the international category.”
