St. Michael's 125th
On July 1, when Canada celebrates the 150th anniversary of Confederation, St. Michael’s Hospital will celebrate the 125th anniversary of its opening. Established in 1892 by the Sisters of St. Joseph to care for the sick and poor, St. Michael’s remains dedicated to treating all with respect, compassion and dignity. Today, we continue to care for city’s vulnerable populations as Toronto’s Urban Angel, balancing the continued commitment to the care of the poor and those most in need with providing highly specialized services to the community.
This shared anniversary provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the history of St. Michael’s and as a key thread in the fabric of our country. We take pride in bringing our rich tradition of hope and healing to every person in our care, and embodying Canada’s commitment to equality, freedom and inclusion.
As our anniversary approaches, learn how St. Michael’s has evolved over the past 125 years with the help of stories of our history and photos from our archives. Be sure to also check back regularly for information about the anniversary celebration.
